It’s easier than ever to keep track of your kids’ online activities with Windows 8. You can monitor their Internet use, block or allow access to certain websites, and choose which games or apps your kids can access. To turn on Family Safety, at least one designated adult needs an administrator account, and a standard user account is needed for each child who will be monitored.

 

Update your PC automatically

Windows Update installs important updates as they become available. Windows 8 will turn on automatic updating as part of the initial setup process. Keep in mind, Windows Update won't add any applications to your computer without asking for your permission.

 

Antivirus protection now included for your PC

In Windows 8, Windows Defender replaces Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender runs in the background and notifies you when you need to take specific action. However, you can use it anytime to scan for malware if your computer isn’t working properly or you clicked a suspicious link online or in an email message.

 

Avoid scams with new phishing filter

Windows SmartScreen is a new safety feature that can help protect you from phishing scams and new malware that your anti-malware software hasn't detected yet. It warns you if it doesn't recognize a website or app. You can also change Windows SmartScreen settings for how it handles unrecognized apps.

 

Lock up your data and devices

BitLocker Drive Encryption encrypts your Windows computer to help keep documents, passwords, and other important data safe. Once you turn on BitLocker, any file that you save on that computer is encrypted automatically. BitLocker Drive Encryption is only available in Windows 8 Pro and Windows 8 Enterprise editions.
